Myself as Elliott

Envision yourself as Russell, Elliot, or Catalina. Describe how you would feel and react to the bullies in the story.

Response: If I was Elliot I wouldn't just ignore them. (pg18) I think that ignoring bullies is a bad decision. If you don't react and just ignore what is happening around you, the people that are bothering you would think that it is okay to bother you because you don't do anything. If you ignore a bully they would probably just bully you more because you wouldn't do anything about it. I think that he should somehow figure out a solution to stop bullying like he is now (like how Elliott and Catalina wrote letters on page 70 and 91). I would also write a letter about what happen to get it off my chest. It would take a lot of courage to write a letter about what happened. I think that everyone should stand up for themselves only if it’s a minor situation, but if things get out of hand, on page 56 when Elliott got thrown of a bridge then I think that kids that are severely hurt should tell their parents. If things don’t get much out of hand I would stand up for myself. So if I was Elliot, Russell, or Catalina and I got pushed around and bullied like them, I would get some courage and stand up to my enemies and tell them to stop.

Novel connection. When Richie punches Russell in the face, his mother wants to call the principal, however, Russell wants to keep quiet about the whole incident. Russell’s mom’s response was, “I’m not doing nothing. If one adult did this to another, he be in jail. Why should it be different for kids?” (p. 45)

Blog Question: Should kids solve their own problems or should adults/parents get involved? Explain.


Answer: I think that kids should solve there own problems because if the parents come in they wouldn't learn how to deal with real life problems when there older. Even if the parents come in probably the kids that were bullying them would bully them even more because the bully would get into trouble, maybe not. Elliott wrote about when Burke, Blanchette and big chris through him off the bridge and on page 96 Blanchette and Burke came up to Russell and they said. "Hey, kid-it's your little geek friend who needs to worry" because they thought that Elliott would put in there names and they would get into big trouble. Russell, Elliott, and Catalina takes the problem in there own hands, they started a thing called "The Revealers" on KidNet because everyone goes on the KidNet(page 101) Elliott and Catalina put there stories up and then they felt better. (page 70 Catalina's story and page 91 for Elliott's story) soon the teachers find out but they didn't do anything about it. This was good because the kids got the stories off there chest and they felt better because they won't tell there parents because the parents wouldn't help. That's why I think that kids should solve their own problems out. If I were Russell I wouldn't put up my blog up yet but I would stand up for myself and deal with Richie.
